arctic blast

so we headed out of inuvik today. rob wanted to do a tour of some sort, boat, heli, plane, etc. we asked around and nothing would fit into our time line. our time line being we needed to leave within the next 20 mins, and the tour could be no more that 30 mins. why, well because there is a soup nazi at the eagle planes motel who shuts the kitchen down at 7:45 even though it says they are open until 8. so that means we dont eat unless we get back to eagle planes by then. so before leaving inuvik we went to the visitors center and got a free certificate stating that we had crossed the arctic circle and completed the dempster hwy. they lady was very friendly told us many things about her town.

also it is important to note that there are two groups of people around here. the locals some nice and some not nice, and the travelers. the second group is a pretty small group of people. boy thats weird, only a few people want to drive thousands of miles, deal with clouds of mosquitoes, and muddy roads only to get to 66.33 degrees north latitude. anyway we seem to bump into the same people over and over. there is an older couple who we have talked to several times. they passed us twice yesterday and saw the trouble we were having with the mud. we saw them in town today and they couldnt believe we made it. the lady didnt really know if we were brave or stupid. either way she congratulated us and told us we deserved our free visitor guide certificate.

as a side story rob and i noticed that there are a disproportionate amount of kids to adults in this town. there are so many kids running around this joint that its not even funny. the biggest building in town is the school. the travel agent guy we talked to told us that the average family in inuvik has about 8 kids. that explains the kids everywhere.

so we head out of town, the weather is looking pretty good. i can see rain ahead but its pretty far away. and so the post in named. the road is slightly damp from the the rain. just enough to keep the dust down, but not enough to hinder grip. rob and i put the pedal down and decided to get while the gettin is good. we actually passed a car on the way. we were blasting back south to the arctic circle.

we set two records on this trip, one for the slowest ride from eagle planes to inuvik. and one for the fastest run from inuvik to eagle planes. dont worry we driving too fast, it just felt that way after yesterday. made it in, just in time for some dinner, we ate and shared a sigh of relief. i really hope tomorrow goes as well.
