whitehorse

we are now in white horse. we had a short fast drive from nugget city to whitehorse today. really the ride was uneventful other than my bike was running like crap (i will explain later). we were up early with intentions of getting going quickly. we needed to head up to white horse so we can purchase a new rear tire for each of us and some new oil for me. rob had a tire set aside at the local yamaha, and i had a tire set aside at a local kawasaki dealer (we needed to go to two places because neither had both tire sizes). so we are motoring down the road and rob informs me that we need to turn it up because mr gps says we will be in whitehorse at 5:30. both places close at 5:30. so we are crankin down the road and my bike is running very sluggishly.

going about as fast as we can, which is about 70 - 75. we stop to check out a few sights, and get gas. we blow by many lakes, trees, small towns, etc. pull into town, split up and head to our dealers to grab parts. i make it there as they are locking up. the guy sees me pulling up he knows who i am and i am in and out in about 3 mins. strap the tire on the bike, head back to the dealer that rob is at, i spot him heading my way so we pull over catch up and find a very nice hotel. leave it to rob to find the nice places, get a quick bite.

the waiter informs us that there are a few places to check out in whitehorse. he also informs us that there is a bar, if we are interested that opens at 9 in the morning, he said if you are looking for trouble head that way. we note its location and decide to avoid this place at all costs.

after dinner we head out back of the hotel find a nice patch of cement and change tires. there was a kid working at a car wash who gave us access to a air compressor so we can pump the tires up once we had changed them. everything went well, this is my second tire change of the trip and its robs first. next i change my oil. its been 3400 miles since my last change. i pull the filter out to find oil as thick as tooth paste. this is probably why the bike was running poorly. anyway all is well now.

tomorrow off to dawson. dawson is where the demster highway starts. this is where the trip gets interesting. 500 miles each way of dirt road, hence the new rear tire. we have mentioned to a few other travelers where we are going. without exception all of them say the same thing...."oh... your headin up the dempster are ya". and they say it with an interesting tone in their voice. sort of like how people say voldemort's name in harry potter (that was for you kayleigh). not sure exactly what to make of it. guess we will find out.

ps its 11:40 and its still sunny. soooo weird.

as always, stand by for more.

  1. You love Harry Potter; so much so you even know how to spell Voldemort's name =)

No beer at 9am? Come on, do SDSU proud! We're starting around 11am this morning for the Gordon beer bus birthday bash.

Can't wait to hear about the adventures on the dirt road past Dawson's Creek. Love you!
